We then post our favorites each weekend in our ‘Week In Review’ article right here on the Craft Beverage Jobs blog. Here are the latest headlines for a very exciting week in craft beer news.

Craft Beer Legislation

Arizona’s New Beer Law A Boost For The State

Local breweries and craft aficionados celebrate passing of ‘AZ Beer Bill’, by Jacob Goldstein – East Valley Tribune

Arizona has become a craft beer destination and intends to stay that way for a long time. Craft brewers in Arizona consider the passing of SB 1030,’AZ Beer Bill’, a win for the growth of craft beer in the state.

Before the passing of SB 1030, an Arizona brewery was limited to 40,000 barrels annually to retain their retail status and any restaurant or brewpub it owned would cease to be legal. Now, these successful businesses can continue to grow without limiting the brewery side of things.

Also, breweries can now sell other local craft beers within their establishments. Its believed that this will foster collaborations among local breweries which will strengthen the Arizona economy. We anticipate more craft beer news on this legislation as the summer continues.

Craft Beer Growth

Washington State: Craft Beer Is An Economic Force

The unique economics of Washington craft beer, by Robert LeCompte – Crosscut

When you look at the numbers, Washington State believes it’s in contention for craft beer capitol of America. The state is in a “prime position to benefit from craft beer’s steadily growing place’ in the United States. It all starts with the ingredients and the farmers who produce them.

Yakima Valley can grow three distinct varieties of hops in three different sections of the valley:hops

  1. Moxee Valley grows aroma crops
  2. Yakima Indian Reservation grows the best alpha level hops
  3. Lower Yakima Valley grows super alpha variety

Washington breweries get the luxury of access to quality hops, which supports the local farming community. In turn, the local brewpubs, taprooms and restaurants get to taste the local craft brew and keep all that beer money in the state. As the industry continues to mature, I’m confident we will see Washington State become a consistent source for craft beer news!

Kroger Sees Profit In Providing Craft Beer Taps For Local Consumers

Kroger to tap into growing craft beer popularity – Dayton Business Journal

Soon you will be able to walk into your local Dayton-area Kroger and fill your growler from one of a dozen craft beer taps. Kroger sees this as an opportunity to increase market share and compete with Whole Foods, who already offers beer taps.

Ohio is currently 9th in the nation for most craft breweries and Dayton is home to almost a dozen. The state anticipates the addition of growler fill stations at local grocery chains to have a significant impact economically for the craft beer loving state.
