Blasted Church Vineyards
First things first, Blasted Church is the coolest name we have run across in a very long time. The Story behind the name Blasted Church: In 1929 a group of men from Okanagan Falls travelled 16 miles to dismantle an old wooden church abandoned in a deserted mining camp. The tool of choice for this dismantling project? Dynamite! With a controlled blast of four sticks of dynamite, the church was successfully moved board by board and re assembled in Okanagan Falls, BC.
In naming our VQA wines “Blasted Church”, we celebrate the ingenuity of this initiative, and honour these pioneers for their vision, steadfastness and craftsmanship. – Blasted Church
A Truly Unique Vineyard
Blasted Church Vineyards was created in 2002 when Evelyn and Chris Campbell purchased a 2 year old 17-hectare Prpich Hills Winery. The 42 acre vineyard produces about 25,000 cases of wine per year with twelve varietals planted on the property. Blasted Church Vineyards has distinguished itself as a trendsetter in a variety of ways:
- First Okanagan winery to produce all wines under screwcap closure.
- Blasted Church uses eco-friendly glass, promoting sustainable practices throughout the winery day to day business.
- As of 2012, Blasted Church provides its wines to restaurants on tap!
