Entrepreneurs: The Spirit Of Craft Beverage

September 30, 2014 By Craft Beverage Jobs Leave a Comment

entrepreneur dictionaryWhat is an entrepreneur? The U.S. Small Business Administration defines an entrepreneur as,

a person who sees an opportunity, makes a plan, starts the business, manages the business and then receives the profits.

Craft Beverage is an industry filled with individuals possessing the entrepreneur spirit. People of all ages and backgrounds who see an opportunity to make a business out of something they are passionate about.

When giving a description of business owners in the craft beverage industry, there are consistent characteristics that emerge in the conversation. Words like “tenacity”, “visionary”, “inspiration”, and “risk-taker” help paint the picture that to succeed in craft beverage it requires a unique individual.

Tenacity

medium_7109399359Whether your starting your craft beverage business in craft beer, wine, spirits, coffee, or bitters, one thing is guaranteed: it’s going to be a marathon. There is uncertainty at every turn, obstacles with each decision that must be made. The entrepreneur who can deal with repeated failure, and who refuses to settle for second-best, will know eventual success. This is tenacity! Tenacity is the No. 1 trait associated with successful entrepreneurs in craft beverage.

Visionary

Craft beverage entrepreneurs are cursed with a curiosity of what can be and blessed with the creative spark to make nothing into something. The ability to look at ingredients, flavor profiles, and business markets, and then also possess the ability to imagine the possibilities. There is a certain type of self confidence that a visionary must develop in order to be able to overcome the ‘naysayers’ and ‘Eeyore’s’ that seek to quell that voice in your head telling you to push forward to the prize.

Inspiration

Being a visionary can be a lonely existence without the ability to inspire others to believe in your dream. Craft Beverage entrepreneurs are able to surround themselves with dynamic teams who believe in what they are working to accomplish. Inspiration can also be referred too as passion. Passion is infectious and when the difficult times come, the passion of the craft beverage entrepreneur can become a great leader to help your team persevere.

Risk-Taker

Every craft beverage entrepreneur possesses a willingness to accept risk. There is a leap of faith required to starting a risk takernew business venture. Being successful at defying conventional wisdom, requires a combination of both intelligence and aggressive risk taking, both of which are a part of the irreverent attraction of the craft beverage industry.

These are not the only qualities that define the craft beverage entrepreneur, but you can see its a great place to start when defining the spirit that embodies craft beverage.

Bitters, Old Men: Craft Beverage Entrepreneur

It doesn’t get more craft beverage  and entrepreneurial than Bitters, Old Men! Bitters, Old BOMlogowebMen produce hand crafted cocktail bitters out of a passion for the science of flavor combinations.

A studied exploration of complimentary flavor combinations is at the core of our commitment to creating genuinely satisfying products that aid in the art of drinking.

Working from his New York City location, Bitters Old Men founder Zachary Feldman has created a most envious portfolio of crafted bitters. The testament to their quality and Zachary’s perseverance is the world-wide reputation his bitters have acquired. From New York to Helsinki and all parts in between, Bitters Old Men can be found complimenting drink after drink with its flavor profiles.

Bitters, Old Men: Seeking A Business Partner

bittersBitters, Old Men recently contacted our jobs team here at Craft Beverage Jobs seeking help finding a Business Partner to help Bitters, Old Men in its expansion from a small-batch to a big-batch operation. The qualities Bitters, Old Men is looking for, embody those of the entrepreneur spirit that Craft Beverage is famous for.

Bitters, Old Men Needs You…

Internationally recognized small-batch bitters company looking to go big-batch. Recently, my attention’s been diverted to another line of work, and I’m looking for someone interested in keeping things in order and helping expand production, as I’m having a difficult time meeting demand. Small business experience is preferred, but an entrepreneurial spirit and keen business sense are all that’s required.

I realize this isn’t a conventional job listing, but I’m open to any and all discussions about the particulars of this kind of arrangement. I will say that, rather than starting from the ground up, this is an opportunity to join a company that’s already established and has received praise from professionals both behind the bar and in front of the keyboard.
