Seminary Hill orchard and cidery will need an experienced, full-time, on-site cidermaker beginning September 2019. This is a great opportunity for a collaborative, creative and fruit-focused cidermaker.
Seminary Hill is located in Callicoon, New York (western Sullivan County) on a hill overlooking the Delaware River. We have 12 acres of apple and pear trees planted - American heirlooms, as well as classic French and English cider varieties. All are grown holistically and were planted in the last five years.
Our goal is to make some of the finest orchard-based cider in the Northeast, and we seek a cidermaker who will help us achieve that goal. Our cidermaker will also be flexible - pitching in to tend the orchard, helping market our product, and assisting in running events at our on-site wedding/conference venue as we grow and add staff. In particular, knowledge of fruit growing and cider varieties is a definite plus, and we hope our cidermaker will have both the ability and desire to work in the orchard.
We also welcome inquiries from candidates with a background in winemaking (and in particular sparkling wine), so long as they also have a willingness to expand that knowledge into cider. While we target September 2019 as a start date, we are flexible and the start date could be sooner or later for the right person. Compensation will be competitive.
