Welcome back to Joey’s Craft Soda Review! If you follow the Craft Beverage Jobs blog then you know that as a rule, we do NOT do reviews. There are plenty of review blogs out there and they do a great job highlighting craft beverages. We stick to careers and industry news.
However, there is always an exception to every rule. Meet our exception, Joey Godinez! Joey is a 15 year old who not only loves to drink craft soda but loves to write about it as well. We were so impressed with Joey’s skills that we invited him to review one craft soda each month and share his review as our guest on the Craft Beverage Jobs Blog. We think you will be impressed!
Joey’s Craft Soda Review
I’m Joey. I like craft soda, a lot. In my opinion I feel that craft sodas have a lot more to offer than a mass produced soda not only in taste, but in variety and quality of ingredients used in their production. This is a big reason why I generally enjoy craft sodas, and I also think that drinking them and reviewing them is a great way to support the generally smaller companies that produce these beverages.
Fentimans Curiosity Cola
Liquid Chuck Norris in every way…
History: Fentimans is a UK based botanical brewery. In 1905 Thomas Fentiman
began selling botanical ginger ale door to door from a recipe he had acquired
from an acquaintance. The company died in the mid 1960’s and was brought back
by Fentimans great grandson in 1988.
Aesthetics: As far as soda bottles go, this one is pretty unique, and I’ve probably seen 100+ different soda bottles in my life. The label is also pretty neat, sorta reminds me of an old timey movie poster. The Fentimans logo is in the likeness of Fearless, Fentimans award winning German Shepherd. Pretty awesome. (9/10 rating )
Scent: Smells like straight up cinnamon, which is odd considering there’s no
cinnamon in the recipe, perhaps its a mixture of strong cola and ginger scent, but I
dunno for sure. All in all I like it, like, enough to want an air freshener that smells
like it like it. Plz stop staring. (9/10 rating )
Carbonation: Kinda flat for my tastes, maybe because its naturally fermented
rather than force carbonated, but I don’t know for sure. Little bit disappointing.
(5/10 rating )
Taste: Dude… Like, u don’t even know. This is the most beautiful cola I have ever
tasted, and there are more of those than you would think. Its got a bite similar to
Barqs Root Beer, and a taste like Mexican Coca-Cola, only better. The are some
familiar flavors, but I can’t place them. The phantom cinnamon is very present,
weird. Overall, this is definitely in the top 3 for favorite soda of any type.
Awesome like a billion hot dogs. (10/10 rating )
Overall: Liquid Chuck Norris in near every way, I just wish it had more
bubbles. (8.25/10 rating )
