Its that time once again, the day we invite 15-year-old Joey Godinez to take over the Craft Beverage Jobs blog for another of his Craft Soda Reviews!
If you follow the Craft Beverage Jobs blog then you know that as a rule, we do NOT do reviews. There are plenty of review blogs out there and they do a great job highlighting craft beverages. We stick to careers and industry news. However, there is always an exception to every rule and we are proud to have Joey as our exception! Enjoy!
Joey’s Craft Soda Review
I’m Joey. I like craft soda, a lot. In my opinion, I feel that craft sodas have a lot more to offer than a mass produced soda not only in taste, but in the variety and quality of ingredients used in their production. This is a big reason why I generally enjoy craft sodas, and I also think that drinking them and reviewing them is a great way to support the generally smaller companies that produce these beverages.
Joia Sparkling Pineapple Coconut & Nutmeg
So, a couple of days ago I realized my review was coming up. I was going to get a soda but my mom had already taken care of it. What did she get? Pineapple, coconut, and nutmeg soda. So it kinda sounds like an Eggnog Piña colada. My hopes were not high for this soda, and to me, it was very disappointing.
It has bubbles, just not enough.
The Bottle
The bottle is about as boring as the drink. It’s clear, with yellow and white writing. Kinda hard to read against the light yellow color of the drink. So yeah, any chance of me liking this soda has gone down the drain.
The Smell
It smells like a Piña colada with a bit of spice, probably nutmeg. I don’t hate the smell, it just isn’t anything special. Not doing anything to help me change my opinion.
The Fizz
It has bubbles, just not enough. It’s about as fizzy as cola, which I don’t believe is enough for fruit flavored sodas. I don’t know why I expected anything better at this point, oh well.
The Taste
When I first took a swig of the soda, I did cringe a little bit. It wasn’t even absolutely horrible, but decent would’ve been a stretch. Pineapple flavor was there, coconut flavor was there, nothing mind-blowing. I have limited experience with the taste of nutmeg, but I’m confident enough to say I could at least recognize its presence. It was okay, but not sweet enough, a bit watery too. So yeah, a bit of a disappointment.
OVERALL: Super boring and poorly done, but that’s just my opinion. I would not recommend this to anyone though, like ever. (3/10)
Disclaimer: My allergies are bothering me or I’m sick or something but my sense of smell is off, as well as my sense of taste, so I may not be able to give the most accurate review of either of those two.
